I'm not sure I understand why it hurts Obama- is it because it has the potential to turn off older voters, the people who actually show up at the polls?

That's a big part.
The other being just how mean-spirited the ad is towards McCain. What's the point of showing how he looked in 1982? I'm sure there are nothing but flattering photos of Barack from the early 80's. I bet that 'fro was lookin' pretty sweet when he was getting high!
And who gives a rat's ass if McCain doesn't use email? There's still something to be said for someone that would rather pick up the phone or talk face-to-face with people. I'm pretty sure the greatest Presidents in our history didn't have their own MySpace page...

The whole point, boat, is that Obama is trying to gain support of the kids my age and my brother's age (18).

Well that was a good use of money then wasn't it? Because he didn't have your vote before did he? Next he'll probably run an ad targeting the black vote.
You werent the target of that ad JosephC. Hate to break it to you.

Isn't the young voter group typically one of the lowest in terms of voter turnout?

I think the vast majority, regardless of age, expect the leader of the free world to atleast know how to use a computer.
The point of the ad is to say that if he hasn't taken the time or care enough to learn the simplest of tasks, what makes people think he cares or will make the effort to be the prez of "change". Look at the whole commercial
Which I find to be pure comedy since he has sided with shrub over 90% of the time and the same people that supported him now support McSame.
So a photo of McShame in the Senate from 20 yrs ago is mean spirited but a discredited ad filled with lies containing a creepy photo of Obama implying he is a pervert pedaphile is not mean spirited
pathetic

That wasn't aimed at anyone but the same middle class demographic he has been aiming at forever.
You know what, Obama won't be using email if he makes his assention into the White House. No one in any administration from now on will ever again use emails. They can be forwarded like crazy, can never really be deleted, they can be hacked and are extremely unsafe. All emails in total can be subpoenaed - the entire package. It would be dereliction of duty for for anyone in governance at that level to communicate via email anything other than lunch plans.
BTW - How can OBama be giving a tax cut to 95% of the population when the lowest 40% already don't pay any taxes?

I thought his quote was that he wouldn't raise taxes for 95% of Americans... nothing about CUTTING taxes.

Obama...in his own words... I will cut taxes – cut taxes – for 95 percent of all working Americans.
I will reward work through a “Making Work Pay” tax credit of $500 for American workers and $1,000 for working families. Because when I’m President, we’ll rewrite the tax code to work for the middle class – not Washington lobbyists. That’s change.
I will ease the burden on struggling homeowners through a universal homeowner’s tax credit. This will add up to a 10 percent break off the mortgage interest rate for 10 million households. That’s another $500 each year for most middle class families. That’s change.
I will make sure our seniors can afford to retire with the dignity and security they have earned. That’s why I will eliminate income taxes for seniors making less than $50,000. This will end income taxes for 7 million Americans, at a savings of roughly $1,400 each year. That’s change.
I will make college affordable for every single American who has the talent and drive to go with an annual $4000 tax credit for anyone who commits to 100 hours of public service. You invest in America, and America invests in you—that’s how we’ll make college affordable for every American. That’s change.www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/09/obamas_remarks_in_dover_new_ha.html

I will cut taxes — cut taxes — for 95 percent of all working families. Because in an economy like this, the last thing we should do is raise taxes on the middle class. --Senator Barack Obama, August 28, 2008 www.politico.com/news/stories/0808/12957.html

Oh, boatdrink has made me redundant.
I knew we all lost the spaces in our names, but some of you managed to retain your capitalization - I could have sworn I entered my id with an upper case L.

You should be able to click on "profile" up top and then click on "modify profile."
Your display name can be different from your login name... for example, my login name is "admin," but I can make my display name whatever I want.
